It's Just What We Have Been Saying All Along

Reuters AlertNet - Dutch spy chief says warnings of militancy ignored, 31 Dec 2004 18:13:37 GMT, Source: Reuters, AMSTERDAM

Knowing Reuters' characteristic behavior toward jihadists and anyone else who wants to bring down the West, this article is pregnant with hot-button items.

First:
The Dutch spy chief has accused politicians of ignoring intelligence warnings about rising Islamic militancy in his first newspaper interview since the murder of a Dutch filmmaker critical of Islam.

"I was always surprised that politicians did not sound the alarm in reaction to our annual reports," the head of the country's main AIVD agency, Sybrand van Hulst, told the Friday edition of Dutch daily NRC Handelsblad.

Second:
"In 2000 we said in our annual report that our society was facing increasing pressure. That is a very severe thing to say. But no word from the politicians. That really amazed me."

"Politicians now realise that tougher laws were necessary," he said, but warned that measures against radical Muslims alone would not solve the problem.

Then, he begins to fall apart:
"We must make sure that Muslims feel welcome here, that they integrate, that they accept the identity of the country where they live," he said.

He does not seem to grasp that this statement belies the reason the Dutch politicians have done absolutely nothing to recognize or deal with their Muslim problem. The best we can say for this ostrich-like attitude is that it represents pathological making-nice.

In the prior paragraph, he says that cracking down on the bad guys is not enough. OK, I can go along with that. The rest, however, is to emasculate Islam and to make laws which force Muslim assimilation or make life so unpleasant that they get out of Dodge. But, I am not making-nice.

Nevertheless, the most important thing the Dutch spy chief says comes at the end of the Reuters article:

Van Hulst said young Muslims were especially vulnerable to the appeal for radical Islam.

"Nowadays young, second- or third-generation Moroccans don't see themselves as Moroccans anymore, but also not as Dutch. In the search for an identity, they decide that they are just Muslims and nothing else."

This is what many people, including us, have been saying all along. Only we have been saying much more. Islam works its evil in many ways, and this is one of the most effective of its actions: Identity comes from Islam and only Islam, not from Morocco or the Netherlands or anywhere else at anytime for any reason. The indoctrination starts in on these kids long before they can speak. They learn that they are ummah, the great Muslim community of the universe, and must never be a national.

Do the Dutch really think making nice will cause Islamic youth to become good Dutch citizens? In a pig's eye!
