Please Read - This Is Not a Drill
Folks,
In case you aren't listening to the radio or watching TV, you need to know something we have heard in the last few minutes:
Discs containing financial records of every single living American military veteran have been stolen. The CIA and the FBI are on it.
Please keep a very close check on all your bank, credit union, credit card etc. records until this thing is solved, one way or another.

Cubed,
I have recently retired and I know of no central place where the government holds veterans financial records. There was an incident last year for which I recieved a notice that someone had hacked into gov't credit card records, but this would include active duty, civilians and retirees. This hacker broke into BofA's computer.
I also heard last week that there was hacker that got into the TRICARE health system and personal info was possibly compromised.

The latest I hear about it is that they think it was a VA employee who. as usual, "accidently took it home," and then it was stolen from there.
It's thought that whoever stole it (if that's what has happened) may not know what is on it - SSNs, and all that stuff. I'm no techie, but I've heard that there are people who can take your name, address, and Social Security number etc. (all the sort of thing that the VA keeps on record) and really go to town with it.
I'll feel much better when they find out where the thing is.

Definitely. In this day and age it's not hard to imagine that info in the wrong hands can mean big trouble for a lot of people.
