NO! To the U.N. Taking Over the Internet
(Letter to the Editor, from the Ayn Rand Institute.)
A cabal of countries, including Cuba, Syria, China and Iran--now
backed by the European Union--is demanding that control of the
Internet be surrendered to the United Nations.
These and other thug-nations restrict their own citizens' ability to
receive and broadcast news and grievances from inside their
blood-soaked walls. China, for instance, currently has many
individuals jailed for being "cyber-dissidents" and it engages in
massive censorship of the Internet. It recently passed a law mandating
that only "healthy and civilized" news may be read by its citizens--to
be determined, of course, by the same "civilized" officials who
brought us Tiananmen Square.
This world-wide web of tyrannies, hiding behind the veneer of
technical complaints, now seeks to control not just what its own
citizens are able to see and say on the Internet, but what every
individual on the face of the planet is able to see and say. If the UN
is given control of the Internet, we can expect free trade and freedom
of speech to be crushed.
The Internet was created in and by the land of the free, America. It
has now become the object of an alarming power-grab by the world's
dictatorships and their puppet, the UN. America must not surrender its
citizens' freedom to the mercy of a debating society for dictators.

The real purpose of this deceit is to take control of the root index. The root index (.com, .org, .uk, .ir, .au) - there is only one master and several copies that ICANN propagates around the world. That master is in the US and controlled by ICANN by permission of the Commerce Dept.
During war, the US could take control from ICANN and we can delete the master for Iran (root is .ir) and all their websites within hours (after propagation of the delete change from the master) would no longer be accessible. That is a very powerful weapon in any war, even with 7th century nutcases with 21st century weapons, and that is why the UN, the OIC, the Arab League, Russia, China, Cuba, Venezuela and so many others who want to disable America's power and influence and even want our country to fall into serious decline, whether by terrorism or by pushing 'world rule' via the UN upon the US. They, our enemies and our quasi-allies like the EU, want to take control of the root. To the EU, I say, "Et tu, EU?"
That is the real reason - to take away a weapon we could use in war against our enemies. All the others (censorship, control, a new 'UN world' beauracracy, 'UN world' TAXATION - can you imagine paying a UN registration and maintenance fee for each domain name, that's just for starters, how about a surcharge for volume? who would that benefit?), they are just frosting on the cake.

No, taking control of the root index isn't the real purpose; it is a means to an end.
The real purpose is to give the United Nations a legitimate means of INCOME. The UN will charge a domain name fee, and will attempt to charge the sites registering those domains 'user fees' based on bandwidth as well.
Once the UN can legitmately charge a TAX, then it can finish the job installing itself as a legitmate world government.
Then the fun really starts.
A bit of friendly advice: Buy guns and ammo.

I've heard of this for quite a while now. This is why I want a .dom network with no outside connection. Completely governed by U.S. law and forget the rest of the world with it.
